An exhibit of rate photos of Japan during the first months of the
occupation is being held in a school in Aichi prefecture. The photos
are shown in a news article in Japanese. Click on one of the photos

These photos were taken by a U.S. soldier, Clifford McCarthy (1921 -
2003), who was in an Army Air Corps photo reconnaissance unit.
The kids in these photos are fatter and healthier than I expected.
They must have been out in the countryside, where food shortages were
not as extreme.
