Now that I got the obligatory Message From Your Sponsor out of the way I'd like to say that I found Stephen's musings a fun read - especially the part regarding mirrors and all those smarmy issues concerning the concept of "self-awareness." I can't locate the specific clipping at the moment but I could swear that researchers have recently confirmed the fact that not only do the great apes recognize themselves in the mirror, so do dolphins and elephants. As for me I could swear that I've seen one of our feline family members, Zoey, preen in front of the dining room mirror on more than one occasion. But then, Terry already knows the reasons behind such behavior. Like Douglas's Adam's mice the feline race is patiently abiding their time before they reassume control of "the experiment."
