It is certainly interesting and entertaining speculation to consider the notion that NASA (Recently referred to as the: Never A Straight Answer agency - Thanks Thomas!) is to large degree a public relations front. Recently on Vortex-l there has been speculative talk about the potential existence of a far more advance super space program, a super secret agency that has been in existence for decades. The implication is that NASA was designed to act primarily as a PR agency to funnel the public's attitude towards a carefully managed belief in the dangers and inherent difficulty of space flight. This was done so that the real outer-space program could go forward unnoticed and unhindered by whatever prevailing and occasionally fickle public opinion might be in vogue at the time. It also conveniently sidesteps any inconvenient religious beliefs that might suggest that the pursuit of such activity is against god's will. It also helps sidestep troublesome congressional bickering which has consistently made a mess of what NASA's has been forced to build. Two destroyed NASA space shuttles and the accompanying tragic loss of life is testament to the wisdom of building spacecraft by awarding the contracts to the lowest bidder - all this based on limited funds that a fickle public deems acceptable.
Much to my surprise I have found that I, too, am in sympathy with the seemingly outrageous premise that there may exist something far more sophisticated than NASA. I've come around to this opinion after corresponding with several individuals who have had personal encounters with huge black triangle craft. Some of these craft are apparently well over a football field in size. Some have even been reported sporting traditional looking alpha-numeric decals on their sides or underbelly. Anyone who has looked into these black triangle reports is eventually forced to consider the notion that they do not fly utilizing traditional aerodynamic technology. They appear to have the capacity of achieving incredible speeds within a fraction of a second using god only knows what kind of "forbidden" technology that seemingly only exists on TV shows like StarGate Atlantas. Truth often turns out to be stranger than fiction. ;-) I have good friends within the literary Science Fiction community whom if I were to suggest there might exist an on-going super secret space program as elaborate as what has been stated in this post would instantaneously label me as daffy. The stalwartness of such convictions suggests to me that there is very little chance that such super-secret agencies are in any imminent danger of being "outed". It's been my experience that society in general prefers to comfort itself with the belief that it is far too knowledgeable and sophisticated to fall for such obvious hocus-pocus New Age drivel. It also is easy to keep reports of black triangle craft obfuscated or dismissed. If some black triangle pilot gets overly careless, should someone get bored and decide to defy standing orders and deliberately "buzz" the City of Phoenix some late weekend evening, the Powers-That-Be can always deflect the "phenomenon" into speculation of alien spacecraft and UFOs. It's a perfect arrangement! Anything of real value quickly becomes obfuscated with fingers pointing in a myriad of dubious directions. The result is that any credible data eventually leads to aliens with no calling cards: dead ends. Will we ever know the actual extent of the true space program? I'm not betting that it will all come out in my life time. Regards Steven Vincent Johnson www.OrionWorks.com www.zazzle.com/orionworks
