If anyone has a Kindle electronic reader gadget, please contact me. I am thinking of reformatting my book and uploading it in that format. This turns out to be a lot of work.
I can get a Kindle in about a month, but at the moment they are out of stock because Amazon is going to introduce a new model. I do not need a Kindle to reformat and upload the book, but it might help if someone who has one could download and review, and perhaps give me a few pointers. For example: Is it a good idea to include hyperlinks to web pages and documents in the text? What happens if you click on one? Nothing, I assume. The Kindle upload section has a Kindle emulator for a computer, which is supposed to show how the book will look. I do not trust emulators. The documentation for preparing and uploading Kindle formatted documents is inadequate, even for an old-fashioned programmer like me who is used to working with specifications on the back of an envelope. The Kindle native format is rudimentary HTML. They do not even support tables. They could have done a better job. See: http://forums.digitaltextplatform.com/dtpforums/index.jspa - Jed
