The calorimetry is somewhat unconventional, but it was carefully done and I doubt there is a problem with it. They could try a conventional calorimeter, such as a Seebeck device, but I think it would be better for them to insulate the device and make it self-sustain without input. If they can keep it hot for several days that will eliminate all doubts without the need for precision calorimetry.
