You can, but it is reportedly not as good for this one application as a Kindle. Reviewers point to advantages such as: the Kindle text is "easier on the eye;" the battery lasts much longer (2 weeks); the light, thin form factor is easier to hold, and so on.
Sometimes, specialized hardware is worth the extra money, and sometimes not having unrelated features is a benefit.
