Mizuno called me yesterday with a few more details about the presentations at the ACS conference.

The paper by Kitamura (which I believe was presented by Takahashi) described a replication of Arata's older technique with the double structured cathode (DS cathode) and Pd-black. The Pd black produced heat but it also sintered, and then the performance degraded. This is the same problem Arata experienced.

(I am a little disappointed to hear this was a replication of the older technique. The newer zirconium material was designed partly to avoid sintering.)

Mizuno gave his own presentation at 3:35 PM in the afternoon, which was 20 years to the day, hour and minute after Fleischmann and Pons' original announcement, in the same city. It gave him an eerie sensation.
