Italian researchers tell me that Focardi et al. have not been open or cooperative, but many details about the rod are known. People have examined the rods. The rods appear to be solid Ni. They are not scored and not made of compressed nanoparticles or anything like that. Focardi et al. have mentioned surface treatments but I do not recall if details have been published.
The Italian researchers who told me this were as mystified as I am that such solid material works -- assuming it does work.
