Steorn Inc is clearly run by dishonest scammers. (Sorry if this is blunt, but this is the first time anyone in this group indicated they were going to send a chunk of money to Steorn, and I feel it's important to point this out.)
IMO you should not consider paying anything to them for any reason whatsoever. They might be partly on the up and up, but since they are fundamentally sleaze buckets you are taking a chance any time you hand over money to them. If one of these two outfits, Steorn or Allmagnetics, is apparently guilty of theft or misrepresentation, and you're wondering which one it is ... well, think about it: We already know the folks at Steorn do that kind of thing: they have lied, lied, lied about having a working Magmo, and apparently taken investor's money in the process. So who do you think is more probably the liar here? Steorn, or the other guy?
