There is some nice video of a co-dep cathode under observation by a
infrared camera, showing hot spots twinkling, by the SPAWAR group.
That group also has some nice photos showing what certainly looks
like little volcanos of melted palladium, which would have to be
awfully hot, palladium melts at
1828<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin>K, and boils at
3236<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelvin>K . Incandescence in the
visible begins at about 670K, according to my favorite reference,
Wikipedia. There should be visible light. Has anyone looked for it,
particularly with a microscope?
