private discussions? I see no point to it. If the people at CMNS want
the discussion closed, why not honor their wishes?
Seriously, who cares what Storms said at CMNS? If he has anything
important to say that he wishes to share with the public, he will
publish it sooner or later. What's the rush? Why reveal people's
passing comments and half-baked, unfinished work? This is more like
voyeurism than journalism. You can make anyone look bad by quoting
them out of context, incompletely, or before they finish editing a paper.
This is a tempest in a teapot but I can see why Storms finds it
annoying. (Maybe I would not be so sanguine if Krivit were quoting me
out of context for some weird political mind game. Anyway, my policy
is I never write or say anything I would hate to see made public.
That's how you have to do things in Internet era. Privacy as we once
knew it no longer exists. That's a shame but that's how things are,
so live with it. People didn't have much privacy before the 18th
century anyway, so we are back where we started.)
