I you look through these eerily spooky images of an abandoned lab in Russia
http://skyfi.org.ru/photos/?path=marksgen You might not guess the device was a super-sized version of the Marx generator that most all of us have built on a slightly smaller scale. Another version, not yet abandoned, is the Sandia Z-Machine http://zpinch.sandia.gov/Z/Images/z.jpg . I say "not yet" abandoned, because it was never planned to be anything practical - and despite the hollow PR claims for "success" (what they really mean is that it did not fail miserably) . the overpaid budget-milkers are already lobbying for a grander boondoggle - which like all hot fusion fiascos, has zero chance of ultimate commercial success. At least the Ruskies had the good sense to pack up and leave before things got expensive. Hey, Director Chu - have the courage to "just say no" to these wasteful 'edifice complex' programs, and instead spend half the requested hot fusion budget on LENR . and at the same time put the hot-fusion milkers out to pasture (on their generous retirement packages) - and you will be the one good DoE administrator to finally bring something valuable to the Taxpayer instead of 50 years of failed promises. It is called "accountability". Start by counting the failed promises in the various hot fusion programs - none of which has made a whimper towards a real solution. End of rant. Signed, Harry A.
