Hi

Could someone help?

I have steel wires, or any other suitable material, that I repeatedly heat
and cool down. Thermal expansion makes the wires shorter and longer. I use
the elongation and contraction to extract mechanical energy. How efficient
can this process be?

Even if it is relatively low it can be interesting if it is higher than for
solar cells. A solar power generator could then be imagined if a black plate
is set out to expand and contract in the sun. A plate would utilize 2
dimensions and would thus be more efficient I suppose.
