I think the HuffPo commentator misses the boat completely. Spirituality is not about harmony or rationality (at least not on the level of the 'information transfer') - it is about survival and continuity.
IOW - if a meme has survival benefits to the practitioners it will be passed along like a gene regardless of truth; and it will evolve over time like its physical counterpart. But there is no requirement that it reconcile or merge with similar memes which are used by others for their own benefit. Or that it be factual. My favorite example of this is the 'werewolf' meme, which was passed along for hundreds of years (and is still around today); and it probably served the pragmatic purpose of saving untold thousands of human lives by limiting travel at night and so forth.
