I did not realize this until a few days ago, but several inoculations are
recommended for people traveling to India. Fortunately, I had time to get
them, today. The recommendations depend on your medical history and previous
inoculations. In my case, I needed hepatitis A and B, tetanus (dpt) and
pills to ward off malaria. Apparently there is now an inoculation for
malaria, which is good news, but you don't need it for a short trip.

Hepatitis A and B are now in one dose, with booster shots 1 month and 6
months later for lifetime protection. The first shot will be effective in a
week.
