The whole EMC thing appears to be about quarks, and the inner working of quarks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMC_effect This is reminiscent of the Bose condensate which is on a larger scale - that is: if I am not reading too much into it. IOW there is a property (the term 'momentum' is used) which defines a kind of possible coherency within the quarks (apparently it happens in protons only) that occurs under high acceleration gradients. At near relativistic conditions, this property of momentum apparently aligns quarks in large nuclei into overlapping wave functions. Thus the EMC effect shows up in accelerators, etc. and was heretofore only said to be a property of protons moving near lightspeed. I am assuming that like the BEC state, if-and-when all of the proton quarks in a nucleus are somehow aligned in a state of self-similarity, especially in a larger nucleus (nickel) - then when an adjacent proton (hydrogen) also gets into that same spin state, then there will be an occasional QM 'merger' with the others, where eventually the nucleus ends up with one more proton than before - thus nickel becomes copper without (or with minimal) Coulomb interaction. Here is where the Casimir cavity comes into play - and Fran Roarty's concept of time distortion. When we move away from accelerators, the leap of faith is that the properties of the cavity and cavityQED can give the appearance of the relativistic appearance of high momentum, to the outside world, where it looks like simple cavity confinement with no apparent acceleration gradient. Thus the same (or similar) effect seen as with high imposed acceleration. The "statistics" of 28 protons in nickel, 3 quarks per proton, would never permit this kind of massive alignment in terms of useful probability unless the possible states were entangled, somehow, and perhaps the variable that changes the statistics more than anything is not just 'momentum' but also a substitute for it - which is confinement within a Casimir cavity, and even as the wall of that cavity, where nickel nuclei have effective gradients that are not "time delimited". and all of this relates to probability of secondary transmutation.. and also somehow to entanglement at the quark level. Of course, if Rossi is a fraud then this speculation is moot. That is the problem for now. This is turning into a 'house of cards' but the bottom card, which is Andrea Rossi himself - is either an ace or a joker. Jones
