I wish cold fusion was not associated with conspiracy theory sites such
as this . . .
The author, CoolHandDan supplies a variety of answers but I think he is
wrong. The answers are prosaic. There is no mainstream media coverage
because:
1. The mainstream media and mainstream scientists don't believe a word
of it.
2. Although I thought the demo and the follow-up experiment were pretty
good, when you look at Rossi's website and other original sources, it
did look amateur. It was unconvincing. I can understand why mainstream
scientists would dismiss it.
3. I expect some mainstream reporters and scientists did not think much
of the reports by Levi et al. because they were poorly written. Even
some of the people here did felt the English was a problem.
The English was poor because Levi is a middle-aged guy who speaks
English as a second language. You have to take that into account. It
isn't easy. People who are not used to dealing with middle-aged and
elderly foreign scientists may suppose that bad English and grammatical
errors indicate author is an amateur or incompetent.
In the last several ICCF Proceedings, many of the papers by foreign
scientists have been written in flawless American-style English. They
are so standardized and similar in tone, you might think they were
written by the same person. They were: <ahem> by me. Re-written, anyway,
extensively in some cases. The as-received versions from the scientists
were as bad as the papers by Levi. It doesn't mean anything.
Even if Rossi builds, demonstrates and then installs a 1 MW reactor, I
doubt there will be any mainstream coverage. Reporters will not believe
it. I will have trouble believing it myself! The mass media that does
take notice will say it is some sort of scam, or they will report it in
passing with a jocular, condescending tone like this:

I gather one of his purposes in building the 1 MW reactor is to garner
more credibility. I predict he will fail at that goal. This bothers me a
great deal because I think it would be easy for him to garner a world of
credibility if he would only allow the NRL and a few other labs to test
a prototype machine. He does not need the 1 MW unit for public
relations, and in fact I fear it will do more harm than good. I also
fear it will be dangerous. Rossi and Ed Storms have both assured me it
will not be, but I would prefer to see rigorous engineering proof of
that rather than their expert opinions.
