From: Jed Rothwell Subject: [Vo]:NPR: mostly short-lived isotopes In what passes for good news in this crisis, NPR reported briefly that most of the isotopes from the Fukushima plant are short-lived species, meaning they came from the reactor core rather than the storage pond. They have found mostly iodine-131 which will not last long (half-life 8 days). NHK reported significant radioactivity in seawater samples around the plant. This will "cause no harm to people" they say. I wonder what it will do to marine species. - Jed
