Ah ha. Another case like William Shakespeare, whose plays were not written by him but by another man of the same name.
Some experts in Shakespeare denialism have claimed that his plays were secretly written by Francis Bacon, the other superlative genius the Elizabethan era. I am no expert, but I have read a great deal of both S. & B. Anyone can see I would love to be Prospero but life leaves me no role greater than Trinculo, alas. Anyway, my point is, I know those two pretty well -- probably better than your average denialist -- and in all history there are probably not two great geniuses whose whose imaginations, philosophies, style of writing and overall mindset are more different than Shakespeare and Bacon. Bacon is the patron saint of engineers, programmers and other dull, reality-bound, literal-mined, fact-based drones such as me. Shakespeare was the greatest poet and free-spirit who ever spoke English. Bacon could not more write one of Shakespeare's sonnets or a few lines of his plays than I could climb the Matterhorn.
I was greatly pleased to see a bust of Bacon in Jefferson's library at Monticello, by the way.
