A trade secret would be a form of "security by obscurity." With modern instruments and a device of this importance, a trade secret will not last one month. I assume Rossi intends to protect his intellectual property with patents. A patent has to be transparent. It has to be as good as opening up the cell. If a patent does not teach a person having ordinary skill in the art how to make the catalyst, then it will be ruled invalid, and Rossi will have no protection. Therefore, it makes no sense to protect the device with a self-destruct mechanism. The only reason to do this would be to prevent users from hurting themselves by direct exposure to material undergoing a reaction. I do not believe that is possible in any case. As I said, I assume this material destroys itself when it is exposed to air. I doubt this is not something Rossi designed; it is in the nature of a highly reactive catalyst. - Jed
