Seriously, I doubt it is wrong. Big corporations and government agencies seldom publish bogus statistics about things like this. They have such high visibility, someone will point out the problem. Source data for the price of oil is widely available.
Corporations and governments publish bogus statistics and outright lies about obscure data that other people cannot easily verify.
