Rossi may have dictated the methodology to be used-- which could have confused Fioravanti. And of course, he could be conspiring with Rossi. That's my favorite theory. Fioravanti supposedly worked for some mystery client. If there was no mystery client, the guy was working for Rossi. If the whole demo was phony, he most likely knew it and had to be a party to it. If that's what happened, I imagine he was very well paid and given some sort of cover story to use if the ruse is discovered eventually.
