Fine. But apparently a lot of people don't get it because they keep
assuming Rossi is necessarily or most likely telling the truth.
You are missing the point. Those people, including me, assume this for
the sake of argument. That concept seems to elude many skeptics. It
does not mean the same as "we believe X." It means we acknowledge the
possibility of error or fraud...
Really, Jed? You acknowledge the possibility of error or fraud, and just
assume it's all real "for the sake of argument"? That's not what your
earlier comments sounded like. Here are some:

Oct. 6 was a demonstration. It proved beyond any question the device
is real. Anyone who doubts that is a scientific illiterate, in my
opinion.
2011-11-14:
This is all skeptical bullshit. None of these issues are real. The
steam could be completely wet and the results would be irrefutable.
2011-11-14:
All of his claims had been independently confirmed.
2011-11-14:
Yes, you can. If you understand basic physics and thermodynamics you
can be certain that his results are real.
You've repeated that last one a number of times, IIRC -- the assertion
that anyone who understands basic physics & thermo must be *certain*
that it's all for real.
If you are not absolutely convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that
this thing is for real and Rossi is telling the truth, Jed, you are
doing a great job of pretending to be.
Which, BTW, leaves me wondering why you're bothering to spend so much
time doing experiments to test his thermocouple usage. It seems like
all you need to do at this point is sit back and wait for the
revolution, and spend your time until it happens coming up with a
timetable for shorting utility stocks. If it's real, then the
juggernaut has already started running and *nothing's* going to stop
it. (And certainly not Mary Yugo's comments on Vortex!)
Horace, and some other skeptics, have a much more obvious mission: Try
to "talk down" the LENR advocates who are totally hooked on Rossi at
this point, before the whole field gets dug even deeper into a hole. If
Rossi has somehow fabricated the whole thing (and has thus totally
fooled everyone who had a basic understanding of physics and thermo)
then there's a really big black eye waiting around the corner and it's
going to be plastered clear across the field of cold fusion.
