I've seen the phenomenon occasionally and wondered about it. Another possibility is that it's due to the forum software, especially if it's "free" or "share"ware. In my case, I check my system regularly with Malwarebytes and continuously run Avira Antivirus so I am pretty sure that Malware is not a cause of the ads.
