I think you are here counting in all the floors. With this kind of counting Despommier has calculated that it is possible to go up to 500x productivity. With artificial light boosting, I would say that 2000x is certainly not impossibility. It is 10 times more efficient for dwarf wheat in single floor cultivation. However I am unsure how much does this 10× figure depend on artificial light or is it only using natural light? Dickson Despommier is well aware the possibilities of development in OLED and LED technologies and possibility to engineer plant specific spectrum for growth lights. He did mention these future prospects in his book. However it goes without saying that large scale vertical farming will at least double the current electricity consumption. And if developing countries are electrified, they need also vertical farms and this means perhaps 8 times increase in electricity production from current levels. This means with certainty that we must go nuclear in power production in very large scale. And it seems very much that Rossi cannot make his ecat commercially viable technology with his own aids (perhaps due to stability issues), and he is delaying and keeping the technology only with himself as long as it takes him to perfect the technology.
