This is an interesting idea but I have a question.  Does the casimir effect 
originate from the exclusion of low frequency energy from two parallel 
conductors?  There was no mention of the beams being highly conductive in the 
article.  And of course the size of the beam appears to be quite tiny so I have 
to wonder how much of their results are truly casimirian in nature.
