I don't agree with you in this particular case. From what I read, the authors of the papers at JSTOR get paid nothing it all goes to the company. It was a victimless crime and JSTOR didn't want to prosecute and had settled with Swartz in June. How can you justify charging him a million dollar fine and up to 35 years in prison? A murderer here in Philadelphia would be unlucky to serve ten years and of course pay no fine. The justice system is a farce. Ortiz had someone put away for 17 years as a terrorist - for what he said. He never did anything. I thought free speech was protected, particularly when it wasn't liked.
