I am trying to locate an Anecdote regarding the current state
of catalytic theory in physics with a little help from vortex, I will
forward it to you if someone finds the link. I can understand NTSB use of
the term short circuit but I agree it is misleading.

NTSB is scheduled to release a report on Boeing Li-Ion battery incidents.
New York Times passes some brief content today Mar. 08, 2013: chronology
and sequence of incident, no cause yet.
NTSB and many investigators keep using the term "short circuit". It is
outrageous to hear such an "about-face" word.
Many chemists always invoke "catalysis" to mask their inability in
understanding a lot of inexplicable reactions. In my untrained view,
mechanism of catalyst and catalysis are still poorly understood. I see both
in terms of functionality providing electronic energy packet reshaping,
redistribution, and reorientation and, in so doing, working as a temporary
bridge.
