This is a shame. Once a false narrative becomes widespread it is difficult to erase it from the mass media and the popular imagination. Years ago I hoped that the Internet would make it easier for people to learn the truth, but that has not happened much. Mythology and distorted versions of history remain as strongly embedded as they were before the Internet. This is even true of events recorded in detail after the Internet began. For example, in 2009, 33% of Americans still thought that Saddam Hussein "was personally involved in the 9/11 attacks."
