Friday is shaping up to be a big Newsday for alternative energy. At least the glitz and hyperbole are unrestrained, even if the inventor/developer looks like an Elvis impersonator.
http://www.gizmag.com/900-hp-supercar-flow-battery/31091/ Quote: "One of the wildest cars at the Geneva Motor Show, the Nanoflowcell Quant e-Sportlimousine is a research prototype that's powered by salt water. More accurately, it's powered by a flow battery that uses a special formula of ionic charge-carrying salt water as its storage medium. Not content to just electrify an average powertrain, Nanoflowcell uses its technology to send 912 horses into an all-out frenzy of spinning, smoking rubber." Watch out Tesla - they claim a large advantage over Lithium batteries ... But they are Italian celebrities, after all. And at Italian auto shows, bloated claims are as reliable as 300 mph submarines... especially, considering that the source is somewhat of an Elvis wannabe... and then... oops, when you try to see what's in the small print, well it seem that the 400 km range - which seems fabulous at first - is based on carrying 400 liters of salt ions (probably closer to 800 liters when the efficiency factor is considered which they forgot to mention). ... fill 'er up... cough, cough ... 800 gallons... yikes ! That could cost Elvis a week's pay. OTOH, this could be the real-deal if indeed he has convinced Bosch, which is another claim of unknown authenticity. Jones
