Another "brown dwarf" star which is too small and cold to derive energy from hot fusion has been discovered. It is not the first object in this category, since only last year "WISE" uncovered a pair of warmer brown dwarfs which are closer. There will be more.

This is because all of the dwarfs (and Jupiter as well) contain dense hydrogen (possibly metallic H) in their cores, along with nickel. The other potential sources for thermal production are not very believable, either - if you do the numbers. Jupiter, however, does collect some solar heat while the 3 brown dwarfs do not. The newest dwarf is 7.2 light-years away from Earth, with a surface temp in the range of Alaska - compared to others which are about room temperature on earth. Depending on its age, there are a few hypothetical ways to maintain 300 degrees above zero including U fission. Of course, the "experts" do not consider LENR to be one of those methods (yet) for maintaining temperature, which could indicate that there are few real experts in this field. BTW - even though the surface temperature of Jupiter is much colder than the brown dwarfs, its core temperature may be hotter than the surface of the sun (and theirs as well). This could be related to LENR as well as several other exotic contributions and fission - a few of which contributions may be "further out there" than LENR ! In either case unless there is heat retention from billions of years past, there must be a modestly robust ongoing heat source for the dwarfs - since there is no glowing star close-by and most uranium would have burned up long ago. Call me Grimm, brother, but I'm resisting the urge to propose to name these recent discoveries as Doc, Grumpy and Sleepy... Jones
