Such a theory is reducible. Reducible theories are always wrong. It is sometimes said that the Einstein-Cartan theory is the same as GR, but it is not. Every new theory provides a new context which is a permanent addition to physics. For GR, it is the idea of background independence, that the metrical properties of spacetime are dynamical. So EC is not GR, and spin-2 is not GR.

There could be something in torsion as a factor in gravitation. It seems that spin can effect gravitation, specifically rotating magnetic fields. Spin gives rise to torsion. Maybe the effects of torsion on gravitation are not as small as Einstein thought.
