Yeah, that is what I have been suspecting which should delay the light but not neutrinos. Perhaps we have stumbled upon a form of CT scan using neutrinos and light time differences to detect density of dust and gas between us and the nova. All we need is for space to remain constant for a few hours along the way. :-)
