Larry Forsley told me: "The pellet is ceramic and comprised of U2O3 and other U oxides, so the proportion of uranium is less than 100%, and hence, the enrichment is likely close to 5%. Over the typical fuel cycle, 4 1/2 years, more than half of the U-235 will fission while neutron capture on U-238 will breed Pu-239 and Pu-240."
So, for 29% of the total energy from the pellet roughly 40 g of material would be transmuted. I think. - Jed
