This would be rather like an opamp with no feedback loop. In order for such a system to work you need to be able to provide negative feedback from the end to the beginning. This in itself is difficult when the response is not "instantaneous", and thermal conductivity is anything but "instantaneous". In short is difficult to do over two units in series, let alone a hundred. (The negative feedback can be done electronically, and can be as fast as the temperature can be measured, but the amplification or response to stimuli is slow.)
