I don't think XOD needs a defense :-) XML has the merit of having
libraries for all languages and environments, so if I want to write an
exporter from something else to vos, I'd use XOD myself.

(Hmm.  Now there's a thought.  Maybe I should convert those map files to
XOD rather than reading them directly into vos...)
