Hi Sergey, Second Life is certainly ahead of us in features and does many
things
we want to be able to do eventually using VOS as well.

But underneath the surface, they are very different:

1. For software developers, every level of VOS code is open source and patent
free. There is no way to develop new software to be part of SL. The networking
protocol is proprietary is SL so there is no way to create a compatible client
or other tools.

2. Related to (1), the only organization who can operate any SL servers is
Linden. Nobody can create their own server.

3. SL is highly restrictive when it comes to what can be built in the world,
being heavily structured towards a simulation of real-world real estate
markets.

Also, VOS is much more than just a client-server 3D game. It can be used for
all kinds of different applications, and these different uses can "overlap" or
be integrated together. VOS can be used for both client-server systems,
multi-server systems, and also true peer to peer systems (though realities
of network setup make that hard these days).
