there have been emails that you've cc'd me that i had absolutely no idea who
you were sending the email to! so i did some web surfing. this link looks

here are the highlights:
ELM also uses an "attribution" to identify the sender of the original mail
within the reply before the quoted text. You set the attribution with the
elmrc variable "attribution":
# attribution string for replies ('%s' is the author of original message)
attribution = Quoting %s:
The parameter (field) "%s" stands for the name given in "From:" line of the
original mail.
Caveat: Using the "%s" more than once seems to produce strange results.
Note: The parameter"%s" is the only parameter you can give. (This is true up
to version ELM2.4PL25). However, there is a patch for ELM that add more
parameters. The patch is simply named the "attribution patch". A patch means
that you have to apply it to the sources and install (compile etc) ELM yet
again. It may mean some work, but it is well worth it.
