very often in my scientific papers, i need to put an arrow in my diagrams.
historically, i've used the picture environment in tex.

lately, i've been using the gimp, but i'm bummed by the hoops i have to jump
through to achieve arrow heads.

what i do is:
        1. use the box selection tool and stroke to make a perfect square.
   2. draw a diagonal so now i have something like:

                 ------
\ | not bad for ascii art, eh? ;)
                 | \ |
                 |___\|

    3. select the very corner, so now i have an arrow head
    4. use trial and error to rotate the arrow head so that it points in the
        direction of the line.

it's a 5-8 minute process. that's too long. there's GOT to be a better way
of doing this.

help?

pete
