I seem to remember /var/lib/rpm containing all the databases for your system so just for you to install my rpm database doesn't mean it will ever work correctly for your system. What you could also do would be to download rpm.src.tar.gz from I think rpm.com or rpm.org or something like that, compile it and hope for the best, (I tried it and it didn't do it for me, but then I am not a hacker.) gummi. p.s. Many years ago I learned (The hard way presumably!)that it's better to make copies of your folders before you upgrade than afterwards.
