hey all,

as I await the arrival of my shiny new system, I'm giving some thought
to what distro i'd like on it.

I originally thought i would go with debian primarily because of:

1. packaging system
2. number of packages
3. coolness factor :)

but, i remembered that Mandrake has been getting some good reviews lately, and
it's also the only distro that I'm aware of that compiles their stuff for
pentium class systems.

so... basically it comes down to sticking with the good (deb), or trying
out the bad just in case that the pentium optimized stuff is really worth it.

I mean, i normally would compile a custom kernel asap, but i would never go
through the bother of recompiling every single package on my system :)
(unless i was building a system from scratch, the howto makes it seems
pretty trivial)

compatibility wise, i think i'm good to go with either one (the newest
releases of both seem to have fairly new binaries of XFree86, etc)

suggestions? insults? patches? ;)
