alfredo, you need to create a directory with ttfonts. on debian, it
defaults to /usr/share/fonts, and this is a good place to put them.
next, change to that directory, and issue xfstt --sync. this will create a
file with the necessary info for the xserver to access these fonts. after
that, you need to run xfstt in daemon mode.
see man xfstt for details.
oh -- i almost forgot. the reason why the x server crashed is because xfstt
wasn't actually running. i'll bet if you did a "ps ax", you'd find that
xfstt was missing. X searched for fonts located at that particular port,
and found nothing binded (bound? bounded), so it crashed. in early X days,
some servers crashed when they had a bad font directory. that's prolly
what's happening here.
what distribution are you using? are you SURE they don't have a pre-canned
version of xfstt?

17 Jan: ABC quotes Bush as saying he's considering a challenge of Roe v Wade.
22 Jan: President Bush's first act is to stop funding to organizations which
"promote" abortion. He's also trying to reverse the decision on RU-486.
Keep in mind, he'll probably get to pick 4 supreme court justices.
23 Jan: Bush opens 1.5 mill acres of Alaskan wildlife refuge for oil drilling.
