it took me quite a while to set up, but i finally was able to set up speech
recognition on my linux box. i'm hoping it saves me from typing. we'll
see.

i've been testing out an X calculator with speech recognition enabled. you'll
no doubt be interested to hear that a burp is usually interpreted as
"one-fifth" or "quit".

jooc, any comp sci people here know anything about speech recognition?
anyone have books on the subject?

it's obvioius that i need to build up a vocabularly. example: can anyone
guess what i'm saying here (the third one is close...)

        less portal its
        Less powerful that's
        Less toward votes
        Witness twirls

but it is quite good in many regards. here is a reading from the book of
sir-mix-a-lot, chapter 1, verse 1:

----
Oh my God. That he'd look at her but. It is so big. She looks like one
of those rap guys girlfriends. Who understands those rap guides. They only
talk to her because she looks like a prostitute. Look at her but. It's
just so big. I can't believe it's so round and out there. Gross.

I like big butts and I cannot lie. You other brothers can to D nine. When a
girl walks in within 80 bitty waste and around thing in your face you'd get
----

actually, the last word came out correctly, but for the sake of decency, i
left it out. my wrists have been hurting lately -- hopefully, this will pan
out. i used a really crappy mic for these tests, but a nice high quality
one is in the mail. should arrive soon...
