Wacom tablets work great under X. X has a native support for them; look
for something called XInput on XFree's website; How you enable XInput
depends on whether you use XFree 3.x or 4.x.

There is some querk in using Wacom tablet under Linux. Normally, it'll
work just like a mouse; to support tilt or pressure sensitivity I think
you need application support for XInput, and you can get a patch for Gimp
for that, but you need to recompile Gimp (and GTK). But even without the
patch you can still use the tablet like a mouse. Anyway, the patches are
at:

   http://www.gtk.org/~otaylor/xinput/

but the files seem a bit outdated. For all I know, though, the patches
are incorporated into the main CVS tree now. You might want to poke
around a bit (e-mailing otaylor wouldn't hurt) to find out what's going on
with the GTK/Gimp XInput support.
