Actually this a new install. It is about 3 weeks old and has done it since I installed it. The problem is that it's almost random. My girlfriend and I use it as an internet terminal and one of us will log out and the other will try to log in and it'll hang.
But speaking of new RPM's I did add Sun Java because she likes to play Yahoo card games. I'm wondering if that could be the problem. Scanning both dmesg and messages hasn't revealed a prime suspect which is why I turned to the list. I guess I'm just too used to things working :) I've dissabled USB and will watch to see what happens. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Jay Salzman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, April 13, 2002 11:14 AM Subject: Re: [vox-tech] not sure what to call it > patrick, > > assuming this isn't a new install: > > the most important question for you to ask is "what changed". what was > the last administrative type thing you did? have you recently installed > any rpms? a kernel? modify /etc/modules.conf? > > systems don't just "go bad" unless there's a hardware problem involved. > > what happens when you boot the thing in single user mode? > > have you looked at dmesg for any clues why this may be happening? > > try to disable USB. we've recently had problems at installfests with > mandrake and USB. > > pete > *snip* _______________________________________________ vox-tech mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.lugod.org/mailman/listinfo/vox-tech
