I've acquired a USB-2.0 seven-in-one flash card reader-writer. Remarkably, the scanty accompanying manual clains that the device is supported by Linux =>2.4.0. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work. With kernel 2.4.24 running on the Linux box and a smartmedia wafer in the drive, I get this result when trying to read a partition table from the flash card:
# fdisk -l /dev/sda sda: Unit Not Ready, sense: Current 00:00: sns = 70 2 ASC=3a ASCQ= 0 Raw sense data:0x70 0x00 0x02 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x10 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x3a 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 sda : READ CAPACITY failed. sda : status = 1, message = 00, host = 0, driver = 08 Current sd00:00: sns = 70 2 ASC=3a ASCQ= 0 Raw sense data:0x70 0x00 0x02 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x10 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x3a 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 sda : block size assumed to be 512 bytes, disk size 1GB. sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0: I/O error: dev 08:00, sector 0 I/O error: dev 08:00, sector 0 unable to read partition table Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive. The power LED on the drive is on at a steadt green; the access LED is off (and never flickered). The card in the drive is known to be non-defective and has a filesystem.
