Then, you don't need to build your own .debs .
It is said[1] that the Blackdown group is working on v. 1.5 packages, which will then likewise be offered as .debs .

What's the drawback of just using the java installer/binary from java.sun.com? I don't really need the apt advantages, I wouldn't want java just updated automatically when I do apt-get upgrade anyway.
