Santa was good to me this year and got me a matching pair of 300G SATA
drives for me server.  I currently have two 100G drives set to RAID 1
(mirror) in a Hot Swap RAID cage.  This raid cage is connected and
controlled by a 3ware 8006 raid controller.  This card will only control
two drives so I want to replace my current drives with the new ones.

I've seen 4 port SATA controllers for $50 ish.

My question is what is the best way to go about this?  Can I simply
dismantle the raid, remove drive 1 and replace with the new larger drive.
Reassemble the raid and let the controller do the rest, then repeat for
drive 0?

I propose something like:
* Backup the most critical data (I.e. anything you typed + anything else
  valuable.)
* mdadm --fail one drive of the old array (putting it into degraded mode,
  both are bootable... right?)
* shutdown
* Pull failed drive
* insert new drive
* boot
* partition new drive
* reboot
* create new array with new partition and a faulty partition
* Migrate (dd if new partition = old partition, or mkfs + cp --archive or tar
  cf - | tar xf - the old data to the new)
* Pull old/smaller driver
* insert spiffy 2nd new drive
* partition (sfdisk is good for copying partition tables)
* mdadm add the new disk to the current degraded array
* watch it rebuild, watch /prod/mdstat, dmesg, and /var/log/messages
