Hi: So IE crashes. Reboot and windblows crashes...doesn't even boot to user screen. Can't even go into safe mode. Hard reboot makes system wide crash, can't even go into bios or past first screen. Shut down and restarted in ubuntu...no problems. Restart in ubuntu, still no problems.
It can't be windblows, it just can't be. Well...come to think about it I did update it w/ service pack 3 just the day before, but didn't think of this right away. Put pc on its side and disconnected things and each time w/ the same results. Removed cpu and checked for obvious burn marks--->none. Reassembled and turned pc right side up and pc would shut down in 20-30 seconds. Panic. Took all drives out, disconnected all unnecessary items, even video card, same. Laid back on its side, no shut down but when I bring it right side up 20-30 sec. it shuts off. Pulling out hair I remove power supply thinking something is shorting out internally in a certain position; moving it in various positions while pc is in upright position doesn't cure problem. Retracing my steps I found that the fan for the cpu wasn't locked down on 2 corners on the MB. Secured it and rechecked---ok. No shut down. We learn from not only our mistakes but others as well. This internet brings all this together. I use this when I have a tough car repair I cannot figure out. Almost every problem that I have encountered someone out there has already dealt with. I write this to hopefully help someone in the future (ooooooo). Cool beans man. Aren't you curious what I did for my wifes' xp hdd?
