My guess would be that you don't have the development libraries installed (if you're getting messages like "stdlib.h: no such file", this is definitely the problem). I seem to recall that my gcc under Mandrake problems were solved when I installed the package "kernel-headers", and whatever other packages that package required. Another way to deal with this (if you haven't quite "moved in" to your current installation) would be to reinstall and select the "Development" installation class (if that still exists in Mandrake 8.1).

I have Mandrake 8.1 installed, and for some reason, I can't install any software. The first problem was that I didn't even have gcc installed. Once I downloaded a gcc rpm, I still got error messages comming from the compiler. Can anyone dirrect me to the correct place to get the RPM? for some reason the installation disks do not have the correct rpm Thanks Travis
